When Floyd Mayweather told Katie Couric in April that his battery and harrassment convictions for a 2010 incident involving ex-girlfriend Josie Harris were the result of efforts to “restrain a woman that was on drugs,” Deadspin called the statement a “smear” against Harris that didn’t seem to be supported by known evidence. It appears that Harris, who has three children with Mayweather, agrees: She’s filed a defamation lawsuit against him for the statements he made in that interview. From CNN:
Harris now lives in Valencia, California and filed suit in Los Angeles County on Tuesday, claiming defamation, intentional infliction of emotional distress and negligent infliction of emotional distress.
She denied being a drug abuser or drug addict, and her attorney said in the court filing: “It was not Mayweather’s ‘restraint’ of Harris that caused her serious injuries, rather it was his beating of her.”
