In a move that’s somewhat common in international soccer but rare and possibly unprecedented in the United States, the Baltimore Orioles will play the Chicago White Sox in an empty stadium Wednesday afternoon due to ongoing concerns about street violence in the city. (Games scheduled between the teams on Monday and Tuesday have already been postponed.)
The Baltimore Sun’s map of criminal incidents reported in recent days indicates that the area around the team’s stadium, Camden Yards, has not been the scene of any violence, arson, or theft; the city’s nearby downtown, though, has seen a good deal of damage.
