Los Angeles prosecutors charged real estate heir Robert Durst with murder on Monday, following his arrest over the weekend in New Orleans. After decades away from the public spotlight, the life and trials of Robert Durst shot back into public view with his apparent admission of guilt in the deaths of three people during the HBO documentary The Jinx.

The most recent charges relate to the 2000 murder of Susan Berman. Berman, a close friend of Durst, was shot in the head in her Los Angeles home. Durst was considered a suspect in the killing, as well as in the mysterious disappearance and presumed death of Durst’s wife, Kathleen Durst, in 1982. Years later, Durst admitted to killing and carving up the body of a Texas man, but was acquitted by a jury on self-defense.
