Jersusalem Mayor Nir Barkat just happened to be near a busy intersection when an 18-year-old Palestinian stabbed an ultra-Orthodox Jew. Video shows the mayor (wearing a white shirt) walk toward the suspect with his bodyguard before lunging at him and pinning him down on the street. The assailant, who did not have authorization to live in Israel, was then detained, reports the Times of Israel.

The video is a bit far away, but if you look carefully it’s possible to first see a man flailing his arms about in a stabbing motion and then the people around him fleeing once they realize what’s going on. That’s when the mayor and his bodyguard approach him. "My bodyguard took out his weapon and when he aimed at the terrorist, the terrorist dropped his knife and we immediately tackled him on the ground to make sure that he cannot continue with the terror attack," Barkat told reporters, according to Reuters.

The victim, who is in his 20s, was moderately wounded. "I felt a sharp blow in my stomach. I began shouting that there was a stabbing and that they should move away, then he came to stab me again and I blocked him with my tefilin," Abraham Goldstein tells Ynet.
