Racist English Soccer Fans Prevent Black Man From Boarding Metro Before Match in Paris

Soccer fandom often does not inspire individuals to be the best version of themselves. English soccer fans have a particularly bad reputation. Outright racism is common enough in the stands of matches throughout Europe’s top leagues that UEFA, Europe’s soccer governing body, has launched campaigns to try to stamp it out.

On Tuesday, soccer fans from top English side Chelsea acquitted themselves in the worst possible manner while in Paris for an away match. Before the Champions League draw between Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain, fans of the table-topping English club refused to let a black man board the subway, repeatedly blocking his attempts to step inside the train from the platform. If you thought there was any potential confusion about their intentions at Paris’s Richelieu-Drouot station, the fans then broke out in a chant of: “We’re racist, we’re racist, and that’s the way we like it.”
