Film With Mike Huckabee Warns of the “Criminalization of Christianity”

“If homosexual activists get everything they want, it’ll be nothing less than the criminalization of Christianity.” That is the message of a new documentary featuring former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee that warns anti-discrimination statutes, same-sex marriage, and the acceptance of gay Boy Scouts are evidence that LGBT activists are working to banish the Christian faith.

Light Wins: How to Overcome the Criminalization of Christianity is a project of Janet Porter, president of the conservative group Faith2Action. Porter is still putting the finishing touches on the film, but Porter has told her newsletter subscribers that Light Wins will be shown at the National Religious Broadcasters’ Convention in Nashville at the end of the month. In a trailer released by Right Wing Watch, Porter appears onscreen holding a lantern in a dark forest saying that she “used to be in the dark” about “the assault on our freedoms,” but that she will “shed some light on how we can use the freedoms we have left.” You see, because the lantern is a metaphor.

At one point in the preview, potential 2016 presidential candidate Huckabee asks the camera, “what kind of freedom of speech do we have if a person who expresses a biblical viewpoint about marriage is told they can’t open their businesses in a location?” Huckabee isn’t the only star power Porter has to offer. Her newsletter claims the full documentary will “feature” Sen. Rand Paul and several members of the House GOP caucus, including Reps. Louie Gohmert and Steve King, along with an assortment of anti-gay media figures.

In addition to criticizing “the blatant hostility to the Christian faith” and “insidious and aggressive assault to our religious freedom” from supporters of LGBT rights, Light Wins singles out the Boy Scouts as not being “brave” enough to face up to “bullying” by activists, reluctantly allowing gay scouts, though not gay leaders.

Porter’s show on the Christian Radio Network was cancelled in 2010, in part because of her pronouncements in favor of the “dominion” theology that Christians must control all aspects of society to bring the return of Christ. Last summer, Porter helped start ReaganBook, designed to be a conservatives-only alternative to Facebook. After Porter promoted it at a conference, the resulting avalanche of sarcasm and pornography on ReaganBook shut down the site in a matter of hours.
