Cleveland officials have released extended footage depicting the shooting of 12-year-old Tamir Rice; in the footage, posted above, police can be seen forcing his 14-year-old sister to the ground and handcuffing her. The video was taken by a security camera near the scene. Rice’s sister is shown running toward her brother’s body approximately 80 seconds after he’s shot. She’s then forced to the ground, cuffed, and put in the back seat of a police car.
Rice was holding a pellet gun when he was killed by officer Tim Loehmann. Loehmann had previously worked for a police department in a nearby town; he quit that job after a supervisor identified a number of “deficiencies” in his performance and recommended that he no longer be employed.
