Husband and Wife Lawyers Accused in Home Invasion, Stabbing of Wife’s Former Colleague

Andrew and Alecia Schmuhl, both lawyers, have been charged in a vicious attack carried out against one of Alecia Schmuhl’s former colleagues and his wife in the upscale Washington, D.C., suburb of McLean, Virginia. According to the Washington Post, 30-year-old Alecia Schmuhl was recently fired from an Arlington, Virginia, law firm where victim Leo Fisher works as a partner. She and her 31-year-old husband, Andrew, allegedly drove to Fisher’s home last Sunday night, where Andrew Schmuhl is said to have entered the residence and allegedly tased, handcuffed, stabbed, and shot at Fisher and Fisher’s wife, Susan Duncan, while Alecia Schmuhl waited outside. Fisher and Duncan remain hospitalized.

Duncan was able to hit a security alarm during the attack. Police were notified and soon spotted the Schmuhls in their car:

Alecia Schmuhl was driving but refused to pull over and led authorities on a four-mile chase. When police finally pulled the car over, they saw Andrew Schmuhl in the car wearing only a diaper, Morrogh said. Bloody clothing, a taser and a gun were found in the car, authorities said. When police finally pulled the car over, they saw Andrew Schmuhl in the car wearing only a diaper, [prosecutor Raymond] Morrogh said.

It doesn’t appear that the Schmuhls have yet entered pleas in the case; Alecia Schmuhl’s lawyer says Andrew masterminded the attack and that she was “controlled” by her husband.

The Schmuhls are 2009 graduates of Valparaiso University Law School.
