Window Washers Rescued From Platform Hanging Crazily Off the Side of the World Trade Center

A platform supporting two window washers slipped steeply sideways outside the 69th floor of One World Trade Center in New York City this afternoon after a support cable broke; both workers were rescued over an hour later and have been sent to a hospital to be treated for “mild hypothermia.”

The building, the United States’ tallest, officially opened last week. Responders from the New York fire and police departments cut a hole in a window and helped the window washers, who were tethered to the platform, climb through to the building.
