Chuck Todd, NBC News political director, will succeed David Gregory as the new host of Meet the Press, network sources told CNN on Thursday. Gregory confirmed the transition in this tweet:
I leave NBC as I came - humbled and grateful. I love journalism and serving as moderator of MTP was the highest honor there is . (1 of 2)— David Gregory (@davidgregory) August 14, 2014
According to Politico, the network moved to end Gregory’s six-year career as moderator of the renowned Sunday news program because it wants to “reassert itself as the dominant Sunday show after falling to third place in the ratings under Gregory.” Todd is a famous political junkie and current host of the political talk show The Daily Rundown on MSNBC. In him, the network hopes to regain MTP's position as No. 1 in broadcast ratings.
Founded on radio in 1945 and revived for television in 1947, Meet the Press is the longest-running TV show in the U.S., and Todd will be the twelfth anchor in the show's history.
