An armed man was shot by police near Ferguson, Missouri, early this morning, but the incident does not seem to be related to protests over the death of Michael Brown, and the officers involved came from the St. Louis County force rather than Ferguson Police Department. From KSDK:

The shooting happened just before 1 a.m. Wednesday at Chambers Road and Sheffingdell Court in unincorporated St. Louis County.

St. Louis County police say they responded to a report about four masked men carrying shotguns in the area. The caller said the suspects had fired shots.

When police arrived at the scene they saw the men running. One officer “came into contact” with a suspect, who turned and pointed a handgun at the officer.

A police officer fired at least once at the suspect, wounding him. He was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.

In an earlier incident, a Ferguson woman was injured in a possible drive-by shooting.

Protests continued in Ferguson on Tuesday night, and some tear gas was used by police, but no arrests or injuries were reported.
