Brazilian presidential candidate Eduardo Campos, a socialist running in third place in polls ahead of October’s election, has died in a plane crash in the city of Santos. From the BBC:

Firefighters said there were 10 “victims” but did not clarify if the 10 were injured or dead.

PSB member Rodrigo Rollemberg said Eduardo Campos had been on board the plane along with his wife Renata, and his son Miguel.

Reuters reported recently that polls showed Campos’s national support at 9 percent; leftist incumbent Dilma Rousseff was at 38 percent, and center-right challenger Aecio Neves at 23 percent.
