Drone Carrying Marijuana, Cellphones Crashed Outside South Carolina Prison in April

South Carolina authorities found a drone loaded with marijuana and cellphones outside a maximum-security prison earlier this year, the AP reports:

… officials found a small, crashed drone in bushes outside the walls of Lee Correctional Institution in Bishopville, according to Corrections Department spokeswoman Stephanie Givens. At the site, Givens said that officers also found materials that inmates aren’t supposed to have, including the phones, tobacco products, marijuana and synthetic marijuana.

Four individuals were arrested last year in Georgia for using a drone to deliver tobacco into a prison. One man has been arrested in the South Carolina case, but his lawyer says “he has never seen a drone.”
