Mostly lost amid news of the Ukraine plane crash and Israel’s ground invasion of Gaza today was this gem of man’s inhumanity to man, via Haaretz:

UNRWA, the UN agency caring for Palestinian refugees, says that during a regular inspection of its premises it found some 20 rockets hidden in a vacant school in the Gaza Strip.

UNRWA is the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East. Per AFP, the group called the incident “the first of its kind.”

On the other side of the border, the New York Times reported this week on the phenomenon of Israelis bringing lawn chairs to hilltops to watch the bombardment of Gaza.

The paper spoke to the Danish reporter who took the photo above. “Explaining that he has also previously witnessed Palestinians cheering news of bombings that killed Israelis,” the Times says, “Mr. Sorensen said that in a war, ‘this is what happens.’”
