At Least 19 Killed in Moscow Subway Derailment

An injured passenger in Moscow this morning.

At least 19 people were killed and as many as 120 injured by a rush-hour train derailment in Moscow today. From Reuters:

Investigators said earlier a power surge caused the train to stall and several cars to come off the rails between the Slaviansky Boulevard and Park Pobedy stations.

“It braked very hard. The lights went off and there was lots of smoke,” a man, his nose bloodied, told Rossiya-24 television.

While the Moscow metro system has been targeted by bombers in the past, terrorism is not suspected in today’s disaster.
