World Cup Bite Fiend Luis Suarez Suspended for 22 Matches

The moment in question.

ESPN

The international soccer governing body FIFA has suspended Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez for nine national matches and four months of all sanctioned soccer activity for apparently biting Italian player Giorgio Chiellini during a game Tuesday.

On the second point in the tweet above: since FIFA also supervises league play across the world, it appears that Suarez will miss the first 13 games of his season with his Liverpool team in the English Premier League.

Suarez has been suspended twice before for biting. He was also fined 100,000 Swiss francs. (FIFA’s headquarters are in Zurich.)

Correction, June 26, 2014: This post’s headline originally said incorrectly that Suarez’s suspension would cover 21 total games. 9 + 13 is actually 22. Yeesh.
