The truck driver allegedly at fault for the New Jersey Turnpike crash that killed comedian James McNair and left Tracy Morgan in critical condition had been awake for more than 24 hours at the time of the accident, authorities say. From NBC News:
Kevin Roper, 35, is expected to appear in a New Jersey courtroom Monday to face charges of vehicular homicide, assault and reckless driving.
A criminal complaint said Roper, who lives in Georgia, was behind the wheel "without having slept for a period in excess of 24 hours."
A state police officer said this weekend that there was no evidence that Roper was asleep at the time of the multi-car crash, which he apparently caused by failing to see traffic slowing ahead of him. Truck drivers are forbidden by federal rules from driving more than 11 hours in a row and must take 10-hour breaks between shifts.
Roper's Twitter bio included the phrase "Move or get hit."
