The shooting that left a 19-year-old man dead at Seattle Pacific University yesterday was stopped by a student building monitor stationed at a desk in the hall where the incident took place, news outlets are reporting. From the Seattle Times:
Jon Meis, a student working as a building monitor, pepper-sprayed the shooter as he stopped to reload, then put him in a chokehold and took him to the ground, according to police and a friend who spoke with Meis after the shooting. Then other students and faculty members rushed to hold the shooter down until police arrived.
Meis, 22 years old, is a senior engineering major at the Christian school. (A friend of his said “Meis typically carries pepper spray with him because he likes to be prepared wherever he goes,” the Times wrote.) The suspected shooter is Aaron Ybarra, a 26-year-old who had no immediately known connection to Seattle Pacific.
