The transparent glass floor of the Willis Tower’s 103rd-story overhanging Skydeck “Ledge” attraction appeared to crack to the point of shattering last night in front of horrified tourists, a Chicago station reports. From NBC Chicago:

While he and his family members were on the Ledge, Garibay said he heard cracking. They stepped off and alerted staffers.

“I walked them over so they could see and they were totally shocked and asked us to step away and then proceeded to start calling staff and techs and I don’t know who else. When we pulled our phones to start recording and take pictures they asked us to leave right away,” he said.

A spokesman told the station that what had cracked was a “protective coating” and not one of the three half-inch panes of glass that make up the floor. The Ledge remains open to the public.
