New York Cab Driver Who Wore Nazi Armband Won’t Be Fired

Anti-Defamation League

A strange story via the Gothamist New York City news site: a cab driver seen wearing a Nazi armband has been suspended from duty, but it’s not clear 1) what he thought he was doing or 2) why he didn’t lose his job permanently for wearing a Nazi armband on the job—in a city that’s home to a number of Holocaust survivors, no less.

According to a press release from the Anti-Defamation League, the ADL was sent complaints about the driver this month and promptly fired off a letter to the Taxi & Limousine Commission. The TLC then suspended the unidentified driver’s operator’s license for 30 days after he pleaded guilty to violating commission rules.

The New York Post says the driver is a 27-year-old named Gabriel Diaz. Not to be too “demagogue tabloid outrage” about it, but would you really want to get in his cab when he comes back in a month?
