New Video Released by Terrorist Group Purports to Show Kidnapped Nigerian Girls

Al Arabiya

The AFP news service has obtained a video of approximately 130 young women that a leader of the Boko Haram militant group says are among the 200-plus girls kidnapped last month from a school in Nigeria.

Boko Haram released a new video on Monday claiming to show the missing Nigerian schoolgirls, alleging they had converted to Islam and would not be released until all militant prisoners were freed.

The group’s leader, Abubakar Shekau, speaks on the video obtained by AFP for 17 minutes before showing what he said were about 130 of the girls, wearing the full-length hijab and praying in an undisclosed rural location.

It’s unclear what portion of the kidnapped girls were Muslim to begin with; northern Nigeria, Boko Haram’s base of operations, is home to both Muslims and Christians live in northern Nigeria.
