The White House was put on security lock down Tuesday afternoon after a car entered a restricted area on Pennsylvania Ave. The car appeared to be trailing a motorcade carrying the Obama daughters, ABC News reports.
Here’s more from ABC News on how the security situation played out:
Security officials closed the gates, cleared the North Lawn, and asked occupants to stay inside the building after they spotted a blue Honda Civic parked near the White House’s front entrance. The driver of the car was a “Treasury Department pass holder” who was not authorized to cross the secure perimeter, secret service said… As Secret Service ushered pedestrians off the sidewalks and cordoned off nearby Lafayette Square, ambulances and fire trucks arrived on the scene.
The lockdown, which began around 4:40 p.m. was lifted a half hour later, according to the BBC.
