Hundreds of Tetris fans gathered on Saturday night to play the world’s largest game of Tetris on the facade of a 29-story office building in downtown Philadelphia. The Cira Center has hundreds of LED lights that regularly display colorful patterns at night. But on Saturday the building was turned into a giant monitor and people used joysticks to move around the traditional Tetris shapes and compete against each other, reports the Associated Press.
This isn’t the first time the Cira Center was used for gaming. Last year, the same people that put on the Tetris display had set a Guinness World Record for “Largest Architectural Video Game Display” when they played a game of Pong on the same building. But they expect to break that record this year. “It’s twice as big,” Frank Lee, the director of the Entrepreneurial Game Studio that turned the Cira Center into a giant gaming monitor, tells the New York Times. On Saturday night Lee told the crowd of Tetris fans that what had started as a personal project had now become a community event. “This project began as a personal love letter to the games that I loved when I was a child—Pong last year, Tetris this year,” Lee said. “But it ended up as a way of uniting the city of Philadelphia.”
