The New Susan Boyle is This Sicilian Nun Singing Alicia Keys’ “No One”

A Sicilian nun has become the latest Internet sensation after she appeared on Italy’s version of The Voice to sing Alicia Keys’ “No One” and wowed the audience and judges. The audience gave her a standing ovation pretty much as soon as 25-year-old Sister Cristina Scuccia began singing. Then she managed to get all four judges to turn their chairs around during the blind audition phase and their shocked faces are almost as fun to watch as the singing nun. The judges fought for her, each trying to argue why he or she would be the best fit to be her mentor. But she ended up choosing Italian rapper J-Ax, explaining she had told herself she would go with whoever turned his or her chair around first.

“I have a gift and I’m giving it to you,” the nun said when the judges asked her why she chose to go on the show. “I am waiting for Pope Francis to call me,” she added at one point when she was asked what the Vatican thought of her appearing on The Voice. Considering the Pontiff is known for making random phone calls to nuns, that doesn’t seem so far-fetched.
