Dorian Nakamoto, the subject of a Newsweek piece accusing him of being the face behind Bitcoin, has issued an official statement denying any involvement in the creation or development of the digital currency. Expressing a desire to clear his name, Nakamoto wrote in an open letter, “I did not create, invent, or otherwise work on Bitcoin.”
The full contents of Nakamoto’s letter was tweeted by Reuters business writer Felix Salmon:
For its part, Newsweek issued a statement dated March 7—the day after the story first ran—defending the work of reporter Leah McGrath Goodman:
Newsweek stands strongly behind Ms. Goodman and her article. Ms. Goodman’s reporting was motivated by a search for the truth surrounding a major business story, absent any other agenda. The facts as reported point toward Mr. Nakamoto’s role in the founding of Bitcoin.
