Jeffrey Corzine, the son of former New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine who also ran Goldman Sachs and MF Global, has died at the age of 31. The cause of death has not been released. NJ.com reports Jeffrey Corzine struggled in the past with drugs and had sought treatment for substance abuse.

“Mr. Corzine is obviously devastated by this tragic loss,” Jon Corzine’s spokesman Steven Goldberg said in a statement. “We ask that all respect his family’s privacy during this very difficult time.”

Jeffrey was the youngest son of the former governor’s three children and was a photographer. He is survived by his father, mother Joanne, and two older siblings.

Soon after the news of his death broke, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie – who beat Corzine in an election in 2009 – offered his condolences to the family.

“My thoughts and prayers are with Governor Corzine, Joanne and the entire Corzine family on the tragic loss of Jeffrey,” Christie said in a statement. “They are both devoted parents and the loss they have suffered is unthinkable. Mary Pat and I send our personal condolences and condolences on behalf of all the people of New Jersey to the Corzine family during these very sad times.”

An earlier version of this story cited reports that Jeffrey Corzine worked at a drug treatment facility in California, those reports have been corrected. Corzine was a photographer. The text has been updated.
