Less than a week after delivering a much debated and incomplete verdict in the trial of Michael Dunn, one of the jurors is speaking out. Juror No. 4, who asked to be identified by her first name “Valerie,” appeared on ABC’s Nightline on Wednesday. She says she believes Dunn got away with murder.
“We looked at a lot of evidence – and myself, it was where the gunshots were, the timing. Could he have had other options? To me, [the shooting] was unnecessary,” Valerie told Nightline. “Roll your window up, ignore the taunting, move the parking spot over, that’s my feeling.”
According to Valerie, race was never mentioned in deliberations and was not a factor in the jury’s decision. On the most serious charge of first-degree murder, she says the jury was split with two undecided, two who felt Dunn was justified, and the remaining members who believed Dunn was not justified in the murder of Jordan Davis. Though the jury convicted Dunn of four lesser crimes, it was unable to reach a verdict on this charge, leaving Dunn open to a future retrial on this count alone.
