Several of CNN’s social media accounts were hacked on Thursday. According to the network, CNN’s main Facebook account and its CNN Politics page were compromised, along with its Twitter account, and the blogs for Political Ticker, The Lead, Security Clearance, The Situation Room and Crossfire. According to Politico, “Around 5:45p.m. EST, CNN’s account began tweeting out messages such as ‘Syrian Electronic Army Was Here… Stop lying… All your reports are fake!’ and ‘Obama Bin Laden the lord of terror is brewing lies that the Syrian state controls Al Qaeda.’” On CNN’s “Security Clearance” blog, NBC News reports, a post read “US declares state of national emergency, State department reportedly out of reach.”

The Twitter account apparently linked to the Syrian Electronic Army group claimed responsibility for the hack.

The Syrian Electronic Army have previously claimed responsibility for hacking the Twitter accounts of media outlets including the New York Times, the Associated Press, NPR, and the BBC.
