ESPN announced on Monday that the network has signed former Heisman winner, and all-purpose lightning rod, Tim Tebow to a contract—to broadcast. It may not be the kind of pro contract that the former NFL quarterback, who was released by the New England Patriots earlier this year, was looking for, but that doesn’t mean that Tebow is giving up the NFL dream. “I am so excited that ESPN has given me this incredible opportunity,” Tebow said in a statement. “When I was six years old I fell in love with the game of football, and while I continue to pursue my dream of playing quarterback in the NFL, this is an amazing opportunity to be part of the unparalleled passion of college football and the SEC.”
Tebow, according to ESPN, is being hired as a college—not pro—football analyst on a pregame show for the network’s new “SEC Network” set to launch next season. Until then Tebow will be honing his broadcasting skills on Sportscenter and ESPN Radio, and his first analyst gig will be during the pregame show of the BCS National Championship on Jan. 6.
