Death comes to us all. We may not love that fact, but we’ve come to accept it. But, when it comes to the death of fictional characters, we’re not quite as accepting of the slow march of time. So, when the Fox TV series “Family Guy” killed off one of its main characters, fans of the show weren't happy.
The animated canine character, Brian, who has been a major character in the series since its launch over a decade ago, died on Sunday’s “Life of Brian” episode after getting hit by a car.
Fans of the show have taken to the Internet to try to resuscitate the character. On Facebook, the “R.I.P Brian Griffin from Family Guy” page has a following of nearly 200,000 fans 24 hours after the Griffin family dog’s death. Fans that are not too thrilled with the loss of the family pet have also started a petition aimed at the show’s creator Seth MacFarlane and Fox. At Change.org, the petition sums up the mood of viewers: “The writers of family guy didn't just kill off one of their creations, they killed off the dog who has lived in our homes for the last 15 years. They killed the dog we all have come to love. They killed America's dog!”
