Edward Snowden has a new job. His lawyer, Anatoly Kucherena, tells Russian outlet RIA Novosti that Snowden has landed a new gig in technical support. Kucherena isn’t saying who Snowden’s new employer is, but did describe the company as a major Russian website. “He will be part of the support team of one of the largest Russian websites,” Kucherena told the Russian news agency. “I can’t say the name of the website now for security reasons.”

One of the first companies to offer Snowden employment after he was granted asylum in Russia this summer was VKontakte, Russia’s Facebook rip-off, which publicly invited the former NSA contractor to work for it on his first day in the Russian wild. Since then, however, VK founder Pavel Durov has conceded that perhaps making such a public offer wasn’t the best way to get Snowden on his payroll. “Currently Edward tries to keep a low profile, and my offer was public: it could be a problem,” Durov said earlier this month. VKontakte declined to comment on today’s news. Mail.Ru Group and Yandex, Russia’s largest Internet companies, meanwhile, say they’ve never talked with Snowden about working for them.
