White House Extends Deadline for Obamacare Enrollment

On Monday, the White House announced that individuals will receive a six-week extension to sign up for health coverage under the Affordable Care Act, the Associated Press reports. The reprieve pushes the deadline to enroll to March 31st without being hit with tax penalties soon to be levied on the uninsured. Previously, those seeking to sign up on healthcare.gov for Obamacare had to do so by the middle of February, in order to have coverage in place by March 1st. The delay was an expected one, the AP reports, “since White House spokesman Jay Carney promised quick action last week to resolve a ‘disconnect’ in the implementation of the law.” The website has faced continued technical problems since it launched at the beginning of the month.
