Malaysian officials are preventing a planned concert by pop singer Ke$ha from going ahead as scheduled, saying it could hurt the country’s religious and cultural sensitivities. Concert organizer Livescape released a statement saying it was told of the cancellation on Friday for the concert that was set to take place Saturday. The Ministry of Communications issued a brief statement saying it was cancelling the concert because it “touches on religious sensitivities and cultural values of Malaysians.” The cancellation took place even though the organizers, and presumably Ke$ha herself had agreed to “modify the show to suit the Malaysian culture and sensitivities,” reports AFP.
This is not the first time the Mulsim-majority country cancels a planned concert by a Western artist. A concert by heavy metal group Lamb of God was canceled last month, while Beyonce and Erykah Badu have also been forced to cancel shows.
