It seems former treasury secretary Lawrence Summers is turning down jobs left and right this year. First, he withdrew from consideration to lead the Federal Reserve amid opposition from key Democrats, and now he has rejected Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s offer to lead the Bank of Israel, according to Haaretz. Summers was only the latest in a couple of foreign candidates who rejected Netanyahu’s offer to succeed Stanley Fischer, who stepped down in June, notes the Times of Israel.
Netanyahu reportedly plans to announce his pick Sunday. The bank’s acting governor, Karnit Flug, is apparently in the running for the job even though Netanyahu had at first made clear he did not want her in the post. If selected, she would be the first woman to lead Israel’s central bank.
