George Zimmerman’s wife is preparing the paperwork to file for a divorce, the Orlando Sentinel reports. Shellie Zimmerman’s lawyer confirmed the couple’s rumored marital trouble that swirled when Shellie Zimmerman refused to answer whether she and her husband were still together in an interview with ABC’s “Good Morning America” last week.

“After much soul searching and recent disappointments, Shellie feels compelled to officially end her six year marriage to George Michael Zimmerman,” Shellie Zimmerman’s lawyer told the Sentinel.

George Zimmerman’s brother confirmed the news on Twitter:

Shellie Zimmerman pleaded guilty to perjury last month for lying about the couple’s finances during an April 2012 bond hearing. During the hearing, she portrayed the couple as being near-broke, while hundreds of thousands of dollars were being raised online as part of a defense fund.

Shellie Zimmerman described the period before George Zimmerman went to trial for killing Trayvon Martin, telling ABC, “I think we have been pretty much like gypsies…We’ve lived in a 20-foot trailer in the woods, scared every night that someone was going to find us and that we’d be out in the woods alone and that it would be horrific.” Throughout the process, Shellie Zimmerman said, “it’s difficult to communicate with your spouse when you’re under so much scrutiny from both sides and I think we both have been fighting for our own individual struggles to be heard by each other and that’s been difficult.”
