The Qatar-based news network Al Jazeera said on Tuesday that the network has evidence that its being jammed to prevent broadcast in Egypt. “After an extensive investigation by independent experts, Al Jazeera can categorically say that Egyptian authorities are deliberately jamming our satellite signals, forcing the network to change frequencies so viewers can tune in,” the network reported.
Al Jazeera found that the locations that are responsible for jamming the network’s frequency are near Egyptian military sites, leading it to believe the Egyptian government is responsible, according to the Guardian. On Monday, the Egyptian government demanded proof from the network to substantiate its accusations that its broadcasts had been intentionally blocked in the country. The network has faced fierce resistance from the Egyptian government for its coverage of the ousting of Mohammed Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood.
