The recent spike in anti-gay hate crimes in New York City seems to have continued over Pride weekend: A video published on the Huffington Post captures two men harassing, then physically attacking, a group of Pride marchers on the subway. The clip begins with two men hurling homophobic slurs at the marchers before tackling one. The whole episode was filmed by a bystander, who was also threatened. You can watch the video here:
The incident comes on the heels of a slew of anti-gay hate crimes in the city that have shocked New York’s LGBT community. In recent months, gay men have been beaten, assaulted, punched, and shot dead, part of a 70 percent spike in such crimes over the last year. The most recent attack arrives less than a week after the Supreme Court overturned the federal government’s ban on same-sex marriage (DOMA)—a fact not lost on the marchers, who ask, “Don’t you know what the Supreme Court did?” before being called “faggots” and getting wrestled to the ground.
