After a lengthy hiatus, John Edwards is back in the news again. The last we heard of the former White House hopeful, he survived a lengthy trial on charges that he illegally used campaign funds in a failed attempt to protect the identity of his mistress, Rielle Hunter. (He was acquitted on one of six accounts; a mistrial was declared on the others.) Edwards’ rumored next step? Opening a new law office in his home state later this year, via CNN:
The firm will be based in Raleigh, North Carolina, and will focus on plaintiff work, the source said. Before entering politics, Edwards was a nationally known attorney who specialized in representing plaintiffs in medical malpractice, personal injury and product liability lawsuits, earning millions.
In addition to getting back to his lawyerly roots, Edwards appears to be mounting a return to the speaking circuit as well. He’s scheduled to speak later this week at a Florida conference hosted by marketing firm PMP, as part of a panel entitled “Historic Trials of the Century,” which we’re guessing won’t focus on the days he spent as a defendant.
