March is Women’s History Month, a time to celebrate the many contributions that women have made throughout history. If you’re a local Fox affiliate in Connecticut, it’s also a time to break out some very questionable b-roll footage focusing on the breasts of faceless women walking on the street. Here’s the now-infamous segment that aired yesterday (notice the female anchor do her best to keep calm as she notices the file footage that her producers opted for):
According to the Huffington Post, the same b-roll footage played during a second, shorter version of the segment later in the broadcast. The network later tweeted out an apology after the clip began to go viral: “FOX CT apologizes for today’s file footage error. We will continue to recognize great contributions of women in CT and around the world.” My question, or at least one of my questions, is: Why does the network even have the footage on file? It’s hard to imagine a segment topic that would need to be illustrated by looped shots of breasts.
