Author of Awesome Obit Offers Equally Awesome Response to Father’s Newfound Internet Fame

Among the most memorable lines in Harry Weathersby Stamps’ obit was his hatred of Daylight Saving Time, which he called “the Devil’s time”

Amanda Lewis, who authored what we and the rest of the Internet declared one of (if not the) best obits of the year yesterday, offered up yet another pull-quote to the local Sun Herald after the obituary she wrote for her late father, Harry Weathersby Stamps, went viral:

“He wouldn’t know what going viral means. He would have thought that was a disease he contracted, which would have excited him to have another illness to lord over folks,” said daughter Amanda Lewis, who wrote the obituary. An attorney who lives in Dallas, she wrote it during the trip to Long Beach, where Stamps died at home on Saturday, surrounded by his family.

For those who somehow missed it, you can read the original obit here, which includes such gems as this one [sic]:

He despised phonies, his 1969 Volvo (which he also loved), know-it-all Yankees, Southerners who used the words ‘veranda’ and ‘porte cochere’ to put on airs, eating grape leaves, Law and Order (all franchises), cats, and Martha Stewart. In reverse order. He particularly hated Day Light Saving Time, which he referred to as The Devil’s Time. It is not lost on his family that he died the very day that he would have had to spring his clock forward. This can only be viewed as his final protest.

No excerpt does the full thing justice, read it here. More on Stamps in today’s Sun Herald. (h/t Romenesko)
