President Obama will head back to Washington, D.C., this evening, cutting short his Christmas vacation in Hawaii as part of an eleventh-hour bid to strike some sort of deal to avert the looming “fiscal cliff” before the new year.
Congress is also set to return from its holiday break tomorrow, meaning that all the key players will be back inside the Beltway for a final five-day push to find some type of common ground. Whether they manage to cobble together a deal of some sort remains to be seen. With such little time remaining before the self-imposed deadline, a more sweeping deal appears out of reach but they may still be able to move a stop-gap measure.
