House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) told her colleagues Wednesday that she will remain atop the Democratic caucus for at least two more years, people inside the meeting said. Pelosi signaled her intention to remain the most vocal liberal voice opposing Republicans despite a second straight election in which her party failed to win back the majority.
Pelosi, in a meeting with House Democrats, told her colleagues that she felt compelled to remain in leadership because the issues Congress is set to tackle are at the core of why she first ran for office, according to Democrats in the room.
The announcement ends speculation over whether Pelosi would keep her position as leader of her House caucus or step aside and clear the way for House Democrats to pick its first new leader since the California congresswoman earned the top spot a decade ago.
