Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid was taken to a Las Vegas hospital after an apparent six-car crash on an interstate in the city Friday afternoon. According to his office, the Nevada Democrat has been cleared for release following treatment.
CNN reports that Reid’s injuries are minor. He was treated for hip and rib bruises after the Friday afternoon crash, and then cleared for release. CNN has more details on Reid’s injuries in a previous report:
Additional sources close to the top Democrat said Reid, 72, never lost consciousness, and was being evaluated at [University Medical Center in Las Vegas] out of caution…Reid was transferred to the hospital in Las Vegas by one of his caravan vehicles.
According to the AP, Reid walked into the hospital himself, and was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
There aren’t a ton of details out there on the cause of the crash, but here’s the AP report on the basics:
Nevada Highway Patrol spokesman Jeremie Elliott says six cars were involved in the chain reaction crash about 1:10 p.m. Friday on Interstate 15.
They include two police vehicles, two civilian vehicles, and two Capitol police vehicles.
