President Obama drew a hearty round of laughs from supporters last night at a Los Angeles fundraiser by doing what late night talk show hosts, Twitter and seemingly everyone else has been doing of late: poking fun at his lackluster debate performance in Denver last week.
“Everybody here [are] incredible professionals … they just perform flawlessly night after night,” the president said on the Nokia Theater stage where Katy Perry, Stevie Wonder and others performed. “Uh, I can’t always say the same.”
As the crowd erupted into laughter, Obama continued, pivoting to a version of his normal stump speech: “We’ve got some work to do, we’ve got an election to win. Everything we fought for in 2008 is on the line here in 2012, and I need your help to finish what we started.”
