Reince Priebus unleashed some verbal acrobatics on ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday. His apparent goal: spin a week where talk of Romney’s campaign was dominated by the now-infamous “47 percent” comments into something more positive for his party.
Here’s what he said, according to ABC:
“I think that we had a good week last week, I think in retrospect, in that we were able to frame up the debate last week in the sense of, what future do we want.”
Priebus, speaking to George Stephanopoulos, later conceded that it wasn’t exactly a model week for political campaigns: “it probably wasn’t the best-said moment in the campaign and probably not the best week in the campaign,” he said.
The RNC chair also defended Romney’s apparent decision not to go into more specifics on his policies while he campaigns for the presidency, claiming that the GOP has “got specifics coming out our eyeballs.”
Meanwhile, Bill Clinton was also hard at work on Team Obama’s behalf on the Sunday talk show circuit, telling CBS’s “Face the Nation” that no president would have “magically” fixed our current economic woes in one term. Here’s how CBS summed up the former president’s comments on Romney’s counterproposal for the country:
“There is ‘no evidence’ that Mitt Romney’s ‘militant anti-government approach will work,’ Mr. Clinton said. He added that President Obama’s ‘balanced’ economic proposal of investment, revenue increases and a spending reduction plan is ‘more likely to produce broad-based prosperity than Romney’s.’”
