We’ll return to our coverage of the death of Chris Stevens, the U.S. ambassador to Libya who was killed last night, momentarily, but in the meantime we figured we could all use a small dash of levity in what otherwise is shaping up to be a somber news days.
So to Chicago we go, where a spokeswoman for Mayor Rahm Emanuel was forced to field what was likely one of the more absurd questions she’s been asked in her career: Does her boss like Nickelback, the often-mocked Canadian rock band?
“No,” Tarrah Cooper told the Chicago RedEye in an e-mail yesterday.
What prompted a reporter to inquire about Emanuel’s music tastes at a time when the city’s public school teachers are striking? A protest sign made by one of the striking teachers that went viral yesterday, which read, simply: “RAHM EMANUEL LIKES NICKELBACK.” You can see a pic of the sign in question here.
The man behind the sign, high school math teacher Mike Konkoleski, was back at it again last night. His latest effort: “RAHM EMANUEL LIKES CREED.” That sign doesn’t appear to have drawn a response yet, but maybe that’s because we heard somewhere that Creed is totally underrated.
