NBC came under widespread criticism when the network’s Today show decided to skip live coverage of the Sept. 11 memorial service in favor of an interview with Kardashian family matriarch Kris Jenner, reports the Associated Press. While ABC and CBS aired the moment of silence at 8:48 a.m. in commemoration of the first plane striking New York’s World Trade Center 11 years ago, Jenner was on NBC talking about her breast augmentation.
In New York, the local NBC affiliate carried the event live, notes the New York Daily News, but in almost all other cities, viewers saw Jenner instead. Surprisingly, NBC actually defended the decision. “The ‘Today’ show dedicated a considerable amount of time to September 11th coverage this morning throughout the entire show,” said NBC News spokeswoman, Megan Kopf.
