Todd Akin Holds Friday Presser To Repeat What He Already Said Monday, Tuesday, …

Todd Akin called a late afternoon presser today to announce … that’s he’s staying in the race. “We’re going to be here through the November election, and we’re going to be here to win,” the Republican Senate hopeful said in a short statement before taking only a handful of questions and sending reporters into their weekends without a story.

It’s a little unclear why the conservative congressman called the press conference exactly; he’d already made it known several times that he wasn’t going to drop out despite the wishes of the GOP establishment.

His “legitimate rape” comments dominated the first half of this week’s news cycle, so perhaps Akin was merely missing the spotlight. More likely, he was hoping a little more facetime would convince his supporters—of which, there are still some—to pony up and help replace the campaign cash he’s lost as a result of his controversial comments.
