While the original report got plenty of traction—no doubt because it in part helped to make sense of something that is difficult to make sense of: suicide—the Los Angeles coroner said Monday evening that the Hollywood director’s family told him that it wasn’t true. “The family told us it is incorrect that he has inoperable brain cancer,” Craig Harvey, a chief for the coroner’s office, told the Los Angeles Times.
