Infographic: Some States That Collectively Have Fewer People in Them Than the Population of New York City

America! Different parts of it have different population densities. Here are some states that collectively take up 4,000 times more space than New York City does, while having more than a million fewer people among them. (Figure 1)

In today’s Senate vote declining to pay for medical care for Ground Zero rescue workers, the 14 senators representing these states split evenly, 7 to 7.

To catch up to New York in population, the states would need to add an extra Wyoming, along with a North North Dakota. (Figure 2)
